DATA ANALYSIS
April
Only a few students have filled out the survey so far. They have indicated that the course prepared them for the assessments, that I answered their emails in a timely manner, and that I was effective in increasing their understanding of the material. I will check back later to see what new suveys have been submitted.
I would like to see questions added to the survey that allow us to link a student's response with their grade. I do like the addition of the question that asks how many hours a week the student spent on the class.

I checked test questions to see the percent of students who missed a specific question. Questions with lower than 50% correct, I checked to make sure that they were valid. I provided extra feedback, as shown below, to help students understand these more complicated problems.

September - Data Sources
User Progress When a student fails a quiz, the first thing I do is check the user progress to see if he or she has spent time in the content. If he hasn't, that will be my main comment in the feedback for that assignment. The user progress for student below shows that she only spent 5 minutes and 10 second in this module. Even if she printed the material, she could not watch all the videos and do the activities on each page. It also shows that she has not been active in the content for over a week. This student (and parent) need a phone call! |
Time Spent
Then, I look to see how much time she spent to taking the quiz. (This information is already provided on the quiz grading screen.) The student below only spent 9 minutes taking a test with 40 questions (half of which were free response style questions). It is not possible to answer all the questions in tht time. I can infer that this student ave up because he didn't know the material. I immediately go back to see if he spend any time in the content.

Quizzes Event Log
If a student requests that a quiz or test be reset because of internet issues while taking that quiz, the first thing I check is the Event Log. It shows me the time spent on each page (question). If a student actually moved from page to page during the time that he or she claimed to have no connection, then I am suspicious that the student was trying to get a peek at the quiz (or taking screenshots of the questions)
